One of the "suburbs" of Lawrenceville is Eagle City. EAGLE CITY, is where St. Paris Pike meets Eagle City Road, just off Upper Valley Pike. From Rockel’s 20th Century History of Clark County (1908): "Eagle City is the name given to the post office located at what was formerly known as the Baker Mills, latterly owned by Mr. S. R. Hockman, and is located on Mad River about four miles north of the city of Springfield, a short distance off of what is known as the St. Paris Pike. The name was given when the post office was established there about 1885. Since free delivery has been established, the office has been abandoned, but the place still retains its name. Its only industry is the mill which is now owned by H. L. Detrick. The D. T. & I. R. R. runs not far west of this place and stops at the road crossing.”
I have a stencil for flour barrels from the Eagle City Mill and two photographs of the mill which was located about where Clark's Farm Market is now. The mill race ran under then next to Eagle City Road a short way and then south along St. Paris Pike almost making that large field an island with Mad River on the other side. An auctioneer's trade card running for commissioner is one of the few things I've seen for Eagle City.
